Warstorm Comes to Facebook!
December 10th, 2009Challenge Games is pleased to introduce our newest game, Warstorm on Facebook. This new version has all of the great squad vs squad action of the original, packaged in a more accessible interface and a single Flash based application. Facebook is the largest social network in the world and by bringing Warstorm to Facebook, we’re opening up the game to a potential 350 million players world wide, which means more competition and fun for everyone.
This new version of Warstorm is its own stand-alone game, and it is launching with a more focused set of features and content than Warstorm.com. We will be adding many new features to the Facebook version of Warstorm in the coming weeks and months!

“Warstorm: Monsters” Members Headstart Starts Now!
October 28th, 2009It’s here! “Monsters” have been unleashed on Warstorm, just in time for Halloween!

Get your tricks and treats here!
This expansion introduces a bunch of new mechanics to the game, including Unsummon, Fear, and Guard. Get ready for powers that go off as cards enter and leave play, plus a host of weird new strategies!
(Oh, and we’ve got dwarves too.)
“Monsters” also marks the debut of our new battle engine. (And did I mention the dwarves?) A lot of powers will work a little differently now and most — hopefully all! — of them will make more sense and flow better in the game. There will also be a few bugs here and there, but we’ll be shaking those out over the next few days. Check the forums for more details.
“Monsters” is available to members right now, and will be available to everyone on Friday. We hope you have as much fun playing with this expansion as we did making it! (Dwarves!)
Themes of Warstorm: Monsters
October 26th, 2009The clock continues to tick down to the release of “Monsters,” and we are busy putting the final pieces of the expansion in place. But there’s still time to talk a little bit about the three themes of the expansion.
The first one is — surprise! — Monsters! We wanted to bring a bunch of weird and wonderful creatures into the Warstorm universe, and you’ll find plenty in this expansion. Owlbears, spiders large and small, zombies and vampires and giants all get their time in the sun. This also let us develop a lot of new ideas for Beast decks and put some new twists on familiar characters.

Time to shake up the playing field.
The second important theme is a set of game mechanics: Unsummon, Destroy, Reanimate, and Resurrect. We’ve done a lot with how the cards play out in the field, but until now we’ve never done much with how they get on and off the field. “Monsters” hits that idea with a very large hammer, and you’ll see all sorts of new strategies involving putting cards into or removing them from play.
There is one more theme to the expansion… but time is short, space is limited, and we’ll talk about that it tomorrow.
Big Changes Coming to Warstorm
October 23rd, 2009The “Warstorm: Monsters” launch is just a few days away, and it’s time to reveal some of the changes we have in store.
Over the last few months, we have been building a completely new battle engine for Warstorm. It looks almost the same as the old one, except it runs faster and smoother. But it’s a completely different engine on the inside: smarter, more flexible, and easier to program.
It also lets us do some of the specials the way we originally intended to do them. The biggest change is WHIRLWIND. This was always meant to be a melee attack, and now it is. When the expansion launches, it will work just like any other melee attack. It won’t hit Flying, it will hit Immune, and there are some amazing combos you can pull off with other attack-related power.
You can find out about the other changes in this forum post. We’ll also talk more about the themes of the expansion on Monday, but here’s a big reveal to get you started:

Not just another short bearded guy.
Warstorm Beta Invites are out!
October 20th, 2009After a series of technical difficulties, we have now sent out invites to Monday’s top 250 players. (Actually, we sent them out last night, but the beta promptly developed new technical difficulties and crashed. It should be fixed now.) Congratulations to yesterday’s winners on some very hard-fought battles!
We also thought you might want to see the cause of one of yesterday’s difficulties. Turns out there was something wrong with the card’s art notes, and I’m not saying that just because he looks funny!

Taking out hapless adventurers since the late 70s.
